The Gradual Training unfolds through hearing the Dhamma and gaining confidence, renunciation and simplification, virtue and contentment, restraint of the senses, moderation in eating, wakefulness, mindfulness and clear comprehension, seclusion, abandoning the five hindrances, the four jhānas, direct knowledge and insight, and ultimately liberation through the ending of the āsavas.
